Grading¶
Introduction¶
This section gathers grading in Kyokushin karate as a practical and pedagogical whole.
Here, grades are described as training levels: what each grade develops, which elements are included, and what is important in the assessment. The focus is not only on which techniques must be demonstrated, but on how the student gradually builds structure, control, discipline, and ability.
Purpose¶
The purpose of this section is to make the progression between grades clear.
Each grade shows:
- what the level trains
- which elements are included
- what the student is expected to develop
- what the instructor primarily looks for
- which mistakes are common at the level
The section therefore serves both as support for instructors and as guidance for students.
How this section relates to the rest of the content¶
This section does not replace other parts of the documentation. It complements them.
- Kyokushinkai explains the grading system as a structure.
- Philosophy addresses the ethical side of grading: responsibility, discipline, and attitude.
- Training describes the larger training areas on which grading is based.
- Technical library deepens individual techniques, stances, striking surfaces, and exercises.
Grading therefore does not repeat all techniques, but shows how the content is organized grade by grade.
How to use this section¶
A student can use this section to understand:
- what their current grade trains
- what is important to improve
- how progression continues toward the next level
An instructor can use this section to:
- keep progression clear
- distinguish between core content and detailed content
- assess grades more consistently
- communicate the character of each grade more clearly
Structure¶
The section consists of:
- an overview page
- a structure page
- a collected page for grading requirements
- one page per grade
- pages for process, preparation, and etiquette
Each grade page follows the same overall model so that progression becomes clear and comparable.
Section content¶
Starting point¶
Grading in Kyokushin is not only a check of whether the student can reproduce a list of techniques.
It also tests:
- technical order
- body control
- movement under pressure
- concentration
- endurance
- discipline
- gradual maturity in training
Each grade therefore does not only mark that new content has been added, but that previous content should have become more stable, clearer, and more usable.
Summary¶
Grading is where development becomes visible.
In this section, not only what is included in a grade is documented, but also how the grade should be understood and what is actually developed at that level. The section should therefore be read as a coherent progression: from the first basic grade to higher levels, where each step builds on the previous one.
