Jumbi Undō – Structure¶
Scope¶
The overall training philosophy is described in the Kyokushinkai section.
This page describes how Jumbi Undō is organized and performed in practice.
Sequence¶
Jumbi Undō is performed as a fixed and standardized series of exercises.
The order is consistent and followed without variation in training.
Each exercise builds upon the previous one and forms part of a continuous whole.
Progression¶
The exercises follow a clear progression through the body:
- activation – feet, ankles, and balance
- lower body – knees and legs
- hips and trunk
- mobility and stretching
- seated control and flexibility
- standing integration – full-body movement
- upper body
- technical activation
This progression ensures that the body is prepared gradually, from simple activation to integrated movement.
Numbering¶
The exercises are organized in a fixed order:
- 00 – start of Jumbi Undō
- 01–42 – exercises in sequence
The numbering corresponds to execution in the dojo and is used as a reference in teaching and documentation.
Counting¶
Standard counting is used:
Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, kyū, jū
Counting regulates:
- tempo
- number of repetitions
- group coordination
It establishes a shared rhythm and structure in training.
Leadership¶
Jumbi Undō is led by:
- the instructor
- or a senior student
Commands are given clearly, and the group follows together.
Leadership ensures correct tempo, rhythm, and execution.
Standardization¶
The structure is standardized and consistent:
- same order
- same counting
- same commands
This enables uniform training, progression, and consistency within the dojo.
Practical Nature¶
The structure is practical in nature:
- it is learned through repetition
- it is repeated in every training session
- it is performed without variation
Knowledge is developed through continuous practice rather than theoretical variation.
Relation to Exercises¶
The structure is realized through the individual exercises in:
Each exercise is part of the whole and should be understood in relation to the full sequence.
Summary¶
The structure of Jumbi Undō is characterized by:
- a fixed and standardized order
- clear progression through the body
- full-body integration
- counting and shared rhythm
- practical and repetitive execution
